National Prescription Drug Take Back Day


The Drug Enforcement Administration announced its 20th Take Back Day scheduled for April 24, 2021. The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the public about the potential for abuse of medications.

See below for a list of safe medication disposal sites in the Austin, East/West Garfield, and North Lawndale neighborhoods. Please dispose of unused and expired prescription or non-prescription drugs responsibly.

  • Do not leave them lying around unattended.

  • Do not throw them in the trash can or down the sink.

  • Do not flush them down the toilet.

Please bring any unused or expired prescription or non-prescription drugs to any one of dozens of collection boxes located in public safety buildings and other locations throughout Cook County.
